A brief description of a Digital Multimeter
Digital Multimeters are great diagnostic tools to have around for a variety of jobs. They can be used to diagnose and find electrical faults in automotive and home electrical circuits, appliances, electronic devices and light switches. A digital multimeter is a small handheld device with a digital display and two probes. The probes are insulated lead wires with metal tips. They are used to touch different parts of a circuit and test it. The results are displayed on the digital readout. A digital multimeter has its own power source. (Usually a battery.) They can test for continuity, voltage, amps, and ohms. A digital multimeter measures these to determine if a circuit is functioning properly. Electrical devices need to operate within certain parameters or they simply won’t work right. A multimeter can track down quickly and easily where the problem is and you can correct it. They can test a wide range of products from watch batteries to electrical sockets in your house. However, they do have their limitations. Carefully read the manufacturers specs on how high a voltage and amps they can test. You still be electrocuted by using a small multimeter on a high voltage system.
