As with any automotive tool offered by Red Hill Supply, the Deep Impact Socket is a piece of equipment that is designed to make life easier.  In conjunction with the right impact wrench, deep impact sockets can make a real difference to how easy you will find it to loosen nuts when removing a wheel, or carrying out any other job that you need to do in the workshop.

If you are using an air impact wrench and want to be able to get easier access to nuts and bolts that are deep within a hole, or to which access is otherwise impaired – such as those on the underside of an engine, a longer socket needs to be used, and this is where the deep impact socket comes into its own.

In essence, all a deep impact socket is, is a longer version of the standard socket wrench that fits onto the end of a regular impact wrench, and allows for the unit to reach further.  With a deep impact socket, you get greater access to otherwise difficult areas without any problems.

There is an alternative to the deep impact socket – and this is the impact wrench with an extended anvil, and there are a number of these available, however having a set of sockets designed for the deep work is a much more cost effective option under most circumstances since it saves on the needs or additional power tools.

The main concern that you should have when you are choosing a deep impact socket set is whether it is metric or imperial sizes.  While there is little physical difference between the different sizes, as any mechanic will tell you, the tiny difference is enough to do enormous damage to the heads of bolts if the wrong set is used, so ensure that you use the correct equipment every time you start on a job.  The old woodworker’s adage of measure twice and cut once is essential when working with bolts to avoid causing problems by using the wrong tool.

There are a wide variety of different deep impact socket sets available for use, and choosing the right set for you need not be a problem.  For most workshops, having a set of both imperial and metric sockets is pretty much a necessity in order to enable mechanics to work on almost any type of car, but beyond this initial choice, there are also choices to make regarding the material used for the sockets, and the particular range of different sizes that you choose.  There are specific sets of Deep impact sockets available for every type of vehicle, from small cars through to trucks, and you can also get them in a range of anvil sizes to fit the particular impact wrench that you have.

Larger impact wrenches such as the 1 inch models are well served with deep impact socket sets, however perhaps the most popular kit is the deep impact socket set that is compatible with the regular 3/8” impact wrench, as this is the unit that is most popular for use with automotive repair work.

On top of the particular deep impact socket set that you purchase, it is also an excellent idea to purchase a number of racks to hold the sockets in place.  The advantage of purchasing racks is that you can choose different colors to make differentiating between different socket sizes and different measurements easy.  That way, you can ensure that you keep track of your deep impact sockets, and ensure that whenever you have a job to do, you can get your hands on the tool you need, and make getting the job done easy.
