What exactly is a cordless ratchet? First let us define what a conventional air ratchet is. An air ratchet wrench is an automotive air tool that is basically an air powered socket set. The blades rotate at high speeds to allow the air ratchet to fasten and unfasten the nuts and bolts without unnecessary human physical exertion. Generally they do not have the same nut busting torque as an impact wrench but they are better suited for work in tighter areas. You would use an air ratchet on a repetitive task such as loosening and tightening nuts. In other words, air ratchet wrenches are supposed to protect your wrists from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from the wrist twisting you get from your standard socket wrench. Now ratchets can either be driven by air (pneumatic tools) or by electricity (either by rechargeable batteries or a direct current). Instead of manual twisting the tool to unscrew all the nuts and bolts under the hood, the rotary blades of the ratchet spin at certain speed using torque.
There are generally two classifications of electrical powered ratchets when it comes to where it gets its source of energy supply. One type is the one with the cord and the other of course is cordless.
While cordless tools allow more flexibility and extra mobility, in the past they had the disadvantage of short battery life. When the rechargeable battery runs down there’s nowhere to turn for more power. Ratchets with electrical cords allow continuity of tasks as the energy supply is steady and the extension cord is long enough. However an electrical cord can be an impediment and possibly a hazard when working around water for example. Modern rechargeable cordless ratchets
