Over the last few years, Torx nuts have become a much more popular fastening system, and have been adopted for a large number of roles across a wide range of different products and industries. Thanks to their design they can be fastened to extremely high tolerances and provide a particularly accurate and precise means of securing items together. Torx nuts feature a shallow six pointed slot in the top of them that is designed to give a much more secure fit to the torx bit and prevent slipping when it is tightened.
Torx bits as a technology were designed and patented by Camcar as an alternative to traditional Phillips screws and are intended to overcome the drawbacks of the older designs. While a Phillips screw driver is designed specifically to “Cam out” or slip once the screw is into place tightly, a Torx bit holds itself into place so that the user can have complete control over the tightening process.
One of the main advantages of the Torx bit system is that you will be able to achieve much more consistent results in use than you would with alternative systems. Thanks to the fact that the bit will hold into the screw and not pop out at a moment when you need it most, you can tighten the nut to the most exacting tolerances. This is why so many manufacturers across different industries now rely on the system for fastening components into place.
One of the fundamental concepts in engineering is that the more accurately items can be fixed together, the more reliable they will be. When you are able to fix items back into place to the exact specifications, there is less chance of any problems recurring later. Thanks to the accuracy with which Torx bits can be used to fix objects, there is little risk of leaving a screw loose or over tightening one as there is with other methods.
In most cases, the Torx nut has a six pointed slot in the top, although other proprietary versions are also available. As stated above, this offers a more secure anchor for the bit
