Automotive torque wrenches are one of the most common and useful tools in the modern workshop, and are used for a wide variety of roles.  When used in the workshop, you will be able to get accurate and reliable results for a job.

Essentially, an automotive torque wrench is used to tighten nuts and bolts to a predetermined level of tightness.  The wrench is set up prior to use so that when a particular pressure is reached it will no longer tighten the bolt any further.  There are a large number of jobs to carry out on a car or truck engine that require a bolt to be tightened to a specific level, and all of these jobs require a torque wrench in order to carry them out properly.

The advantages of being able to tighten a nut to a predetermined level are related to the levels of precision with which a modern engine needs to be maintained.  In order to ensure a long life for all components within a vehicle, it is necessary to fasten them into place in a way that minimizes stresses on them and the items that they are connected to.  Vibration is minimized by tightness, however over tightening bolts will place a large load on the bolt and surrounding area that can cause failure.  By specifying a particular load on the bolt, they can be tightened to the exact level needed, and this in turn will protect the system.

The Automotive torque wrench is essentially an adjustable tool that you can set up to an exact level and then use as required.  They come in a number of different designs to suit your purposes; however typically, they will be a lever that connects to a socket.  This can rotate freely when required or be fixed into place.  As a bolt tightens, the amount of load that it places on the wrench increases, the wrench can be set up to release at a particular level of pressure so that as soon as the load on the bolt approaches a certain level – for example 10Nm , the wrench will not tighten the bolt any further.

Red Hill Supply offer an extensive range of different automotive torque wrenches that are designed to carry out a full range of different jobs in the workshop so that you can confidently perform maintenance to the highest possible standards without worrying about errors due to over tightening that could cause long term damage to parts of the engine or other systems.  It is always important to have a tool that is specially designed for the task at hand, and this means that you will often requ
