The darkness of a moonless night can make it very difficult to see in the outdoors and even in urban areas. Even our houses and backyards may not have adequate lighting. How about rural highways? Sure, some highways may be illuminated but there will always be roads that lack adequate lighting. Consider a natural disaster. How would you like being stuck in a dark house when your fuse blows or the power goes out? Black outs are prevalent when there is a natural calamity because your local electricity provider may sometimes cut the supply to prevent further damage such as fire or damaged power lines. Sure, you can always opt to use candles but they are a serious fire hazard. In a worse case scenario, a unattended candle can reduce your house to ashes in a blink of an eye. In order to avoid these situations, it is important to be prepared and one tool that we need to have with us when travelling at night or when there is a calamity is a rechargeable spotlight. There are several different models to choose from and they come in different shapes and sizes. However, choosing the correct one can be a bit confusing. One of the first options to consider is how much light do you really need. Rechargeable spotlights produce generous amounts of light and are far brighter than a conventional flashlight. Some rechargeable spotlights have up to the same glow as 10,000 candle power, while more powerful models can produce well over 1 million candle power. It really is a matter of personal preference and how much area you need to illuminate. However, the brightness varies depending where it will be used and ambient conditions. Some units are capable of lighting a very wide area and others are really just for a smaller space like a campsite. Rechargeable spotlights also come in different shapes, styles, and sizes. They range anywhere from the smallest model available in the market that is about five inches in size all the way to the 20-inch rechargeable spotlights. Choosing the right size is really about personal preference and the lighting needs you have. If portability is a critical factor, a the five inch model is the one for you. One of the next decisions you need to make is deciding what type of bulbs do you want for your spotlight. There are different types of bulbs present in rechargeable spotlights. The most common types of bulbs are the fluorescent lights, halogen bulbs (the same bulbs used in most vehicle headlights) and LED. They all have pros and cons. LED lights are generally more expensive, but they use less battery and are more resilient to shock than a fluorescent bulb. If cost is the primary factor, fluorescent bulbs are a good value. Rechargeable spotlights also have different charging and power options available as well. Most have AC adapters that will charge the unit too. When you first pull your light out of the box you must plug it in using the AC adapter and charge it for a couple of hours. (The AC adapter should come with the package with the unit you purchased.) Most manufacturers recommend you charge it for about 10 hours. Another option is to charge it in your vehicle using a DC power cord, which is included in the package as well. Aside from rechargeable batteries, a good model can also have a back-up in case the rechargeable batteries fail. You may consider purchasing one that operates on disposable batteries such as several AAs, alkaline batteries that can fit in the case of the rechargeable spotlight. Overall modern rechargeable spotlights are very compact, user-friendly and of course very affordable. They are the perfect lighting equipment for emergencies and back up lighting. It is also handy when your car unexpectedly breaks down in an isolated road. Always look for a rechargeable spotlight that fits your needs and budget. This is one item that you will not be sorry you added to your emergency disaster kit at home. |
