Mig welder and a bird's nest

I have a nasty bird's nest in my Astro Pneumatic mig welder and I am not sure what the procedure is to remove all the wire. Can you offer any advice?

A "bird's nest" is a common hazard to mig welding and can easily be corrected. First, a bird's nest is a tangle of wire in the wire drive area of a mig welder. It is created when the wire drive keeps feeding wire but the cable is blocked. To correct it, first turn off the mig welder and cut the wire as it comes off the spool. You need to hold the spool end because the wire is under tension. The tangled wire may also be storing tension and can fly out of the drive roll area. Release the tension arm. Pull the wire out of the drive mechanism and the supply cable. You should also wear safety glasses or if you have an auto darkening welding helmet, leave it on.
