Is there an impact wrench that doesn't need an air compressor?

Is there an impact wrench on the market that uses electricity instead of compressed air? I need to have one in my garage for occasional use and I don't want to have to purchase a air compressor to run one. What are my options?

There are basically two options out there for you. You can purchase either an electric impact wrench or a cordless impact wrench. An electric impact just has a cord that plugs into a grounded electric socket in your garage and you will probably need an extension cord to get some reach for the tool. Another option is a cordless impact wrench. Rechargeable batteries have come a long way and now they can power a 1/2 inch impact wrench. These are great because you can use them anywhere and they generally come with 2 rechargeable batteries, so you will always have a spare. If you are really using an impact wrench through out the day, your best option is still an air powered version and an portable air compressor. But for light duty garage use, an electric or cordless model will serve you well.

What is the best portable air compressor for my nail gun?

How big of a portable air compressor do I need to buy to run a nail gun? I am rebuilding my garage and a want to use a nail gun on the project. I have an old compressor that recently quit on me and I am looking for a replacement.

When looking for a portable model for nail guns there are basically 2 types most people use. There is a pancake tank style and the twin tank model. Air nail guns typically do not require too much air to run, so you can get by with a smaller tank. In this case a pancake tank model is great because they are small and easy to haul around. The twin tank models are typically bigger and have wheel barrow type wheel in the middle to tow around. If all you are running is a nail gun for a home improvement project, I would go with a pancake type portable air compressor.
