Greasing your air tool

If your like me, you are probably have no idea on what the proper procedures are for maintaining your air tools. Here are a few pieces of information you might find helpful:

On most air tools there is a grease fitting that should take a needle-type grease tip. Put the grease gun against the fitting and push the plunger on the back of the gun. The square drive on the Ingersoll Rand impacts will move in and out of the hammer case a little bit. Push the anvil back into the hammer case and start pumping grease in the back of the tool through the fitting. Watch the anvil carefully. When you see it move forward, pump the grease gun eight to ten times. Too much grease will overfill the hammer case, and while it won’t hurt the tool, it will decrease its performance until the excess grease works its way out of the tool. Check your owner’s manual that came with your tool or go to the manufacturer's website for more information on how often and what type of grease.
