The oil production industry puts men into some of the most demanding environments on the planet, and requires a huge investment in the best possible quality of equipment to provide maximum safety and security at all stages.  The first choice piece of equipment when it comes to lifting people from one level of an oil rig to another is the Ingersoll Rand Manrider winch.  This powerful and reliable piece of equipment has seen service in some of the most difficult situations possible, where reliability is everything, and is designed to perform on demand without any compromise on quality or safety.  It is type approved by some of the most respected insurance groups in the world, and has become the de facto standard when it comes to the lifting of personnel and other loads in difficult environments and for marine applications.
The Manrider winch from Ingersoll Rand was born out of the need to produce a completely reliable and yet very powerful winching system that could be used in difficult environments such as oil rigs.
In such environments, where there is constant spray from the ocean, and where there is always the potential for releases of flammable gas, a conventional electric winch is soon overcome by the moisture, and becomes unreliable.  IN such situations, you need an air powered winch, because otherwise you would fall victim to deterioration of the system.
Every aspect of the design of the Ingersoll Rand Manrider winch range has been carefully considered in order to make it as safe as possible and to ensure that it is able to perform consistently on demand.  Refinements to the whole design and construction process of each unit have been made that allow for seamless operation in very demanding conditions.
One of the most innovative design changes of the Manrider winch is the fact that it features a completely enclosed disc brake.  The use of a sealed oil bath to surround the brake means that it is completely immune to the damage that salty air can do.  Keeping dirt and moisture off the braking system means that the winch can be used more or less constantly through thousands of cycles without maintenance, and that degradation of essential components can be avoided.
Lifting a man and equipment rather than just materials using a winch requires a lot more control to ensure safety throughout the process, and the Manrider winch has been designed with this consideration in mind.  Aside from the main disc brake, which is enclosed in an oil filled container for safety, the winch has a secondary drum brake that can be operated easily when the winch is in use.  Thanks to the use of compressed air power, the winch will also lock into place when it stalls, so you do not run the risk of the load being dropped if there is a problem during lifting.
Safety on a Manrider winch is further enhanced through the ability of the user to control the speed fully.  From a slow creeping movement through to high speed lifting, you will find that the easy to use control dial on the unit allows the operator to exercise effortless mastery over all aspects of the operation of the winch.
When it comes to working in difficult conditions, it is important to know that your equipment will not let you down.  The Manrider winch from Ingersoll Rand has been rigorously tested in some of the most demanding environments, and has been approved for use by a number of independent third parties including Lloyds Shipping Register, the American Bureau of Shipping, and Diet Norske Veritas.  These groups have examined all aspects of the design and construction of the Manrider winch in order to ensure that the units can be type approved and certified for use on oil platforms and ships around the world, giving you the confidence to use them in whatever application you require.
