Perhaps the tool that most people immediately associate with air power is the impact wrench. In its many different forms, the impact wrench has been the cornerstone of so many different industrial, construction and mechanical jobs, that there is probably no tool that has been used to such an extent. In order to satisfy the individual needs of each of the jobs it is required for, this tool comes in a wide variety of shapes and sizes from high powered designs intended to be used in heavy duty tasks on trucks and construction projects through to ½” impact wrench, which is more accurate in use, and ideal for smaller tasks thanks to its convenient size and user friendly nature.Unlike much larger tools such as the full size one inch models that are limited to the really big jobs, the ½” impact wrench is a highly flexible tool that can be used for everything from basic engine work through to construction. A 1/2” impact wrench combines a lightweight but durable design with plenty of power, and will always come in handy when you are working. Most of the well known tool manufacturers produce 1/2” impact wrenches, and they are available in both air and electric powered versions. The preferred model of the modern mechanic is of course the air powered ½” impact wrench, due to its lighter weight, greater power, and better torque, although for home use where a compressed air supply is not available, then an electrical ½” impact wrench will serve perfectly well. Unlike larger models, ½” impact wrenches are designed around their ability to get into smaller gaps, and this makes them ideal for work in confined spaces around the engine of a car. The smaller length of the pistol grip ½” impact wrench is generally well suited to jobs in and around the engine block, although for jobs that require access to a particularly tight area, you may prefer to opt for a model with an extended anvil. A ½” impact wrench with an extended anvil provides you with a very narrow profile that will fit in between tightly placed components and allow you to work with extreme precision. The top ½” impact wrench manufacturers are Chicago Pneumatic and the well known Ingersoll Rand Company. Both companies offer a wide range of different models that have slightly different specifications in order to make them suited to a variety of different tasks. Ironically, the biggest thing to happen to the ½” impact tool range in the last few years is also one of the smallest. When Ingersoll Rand released their twin models, the IR2135Ti, and IR2 135QTi, it generated a lot of attention around the world. The reason why these two models generated so much attention was because of their revolutionary new technology and manufacturing processes. Ingersoll Rand have incorporated exotic titanium alloys throughout the tools which makes them lighter, yet even more hard wearing than ever. This additional power has been harnessed in such a way that the ½” impact wrench is able to operate at higher torque levels than before, yet incorporates the patent pending quiet technology that makes the IR2135QTi a much more user friendly tool than any rival product. The whole range of ½” impact wrenches are complimentary, and serve slightly different purposes. Although the flagship IR2135QTi models are at the cutting edge of air tool technology, there are also a wide variety of simpler models available that also offer much of the same versatility and compact size including the extremely popular Ingersoll Rand IRT8049, which is one of the most powerful tools of its size, and ideal for many workshop tasks including changing tires, and other tough jobs where high levels of torque coupled with a small size are a real benefit. From the most basic 1/2” impact wrenches that offer a useful tool for hobbyists, through to the most resilient lifetime guaranteed tools from top manufacturers, Red Hill Supply are pleased to offer a comprehensive range of these essential tools, and are sure to stock the right model for your needs. |
